The Chicago Heights Park District is inviting residents and others to join a fall cleanup of McEldowney Park, the town's oldest park, which is celebrating its 100th years old in 2011.
The park cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9a.m. to 2 p.m. (The rain date is scheduled for the following Saturday, Oct. 8)
McEldowney Park is currently overgrown along Thorn Creek between 14th Street and 16th Street.
"We, in effect, want to rededicate the Park and recognize its first 100 years by organizing a volunteer cleanup effort in conjunction with the Park District," said Park District Superintendent Frank Perez. "This would be the first step in restoring and beautifying the park. This should be treated as the gem that it is."
Support is expected from the Historic Preservation and Beautification Committees, alderpersons and volunteers from the 2nd, 4th and 7th wards, Chicago Heights Rotary and Union Street Gallery, Perez said.
