2nd District Candidates to Debate at Rich Central High School
Before the debate, students will get to network with the candidates.
Students interested in meeting some of the 2nd District election candidates will have an opportunity at the end of January.
A debate, with a preceding meet and greet, will be held at Rich Central High School on Jan. 30. It is geared at giving students interested in political science a chance to network with the candidates, according to a release from the Chicago Young & Powerful Group, who is sponsoring the event.
The Young & Powerful Group is a collective, focused on "educational reform, voter education, health and wellness promotion, and social entrepreneurship issues," according to the release.
Wendell Mosby, who is helping to plan and promote the event said five candidates have confirmed their participation.
The mixer starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by a town hall meeting at 5:45 p.m. The debate caps the night at 6:30 p.m., with WGN’s Gaynor Hall moderating. Student volunteers will be live tweeting during the debate.
The event is also being sponsored by GOTV Cook County and Chicago Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.

Y&P is a PAC. Visited their website and couldn't find anything on how they plan to impact "educational reform, voter education, health and wellness promotion, and social entrepreneurship issues". OK, they earn a few points for organizing the "debate".

Dinkum,
I was told I would be receiving a list of names Tuesday, Jan. 8. When I do, I will post it to Patch.

Yo, gearing non-voting students to the political process is great; Will voting adults be invited to attend? Your article failed to address this. Kudos, to the organizers for having this event, but identification of participating candidates should have been an impoertant part of the Y&P announcement.
