Apartment Stabbing Death Was Self-Defense: Police

Authorities say two men acted in self-defense in the Friday stabbing death of a Chicago Heights man.
Levar Stepney, 35, of the 19400 block of Glenwood Road, was found dead in his apartment, police said. Chicago Heights police were holding two men for questioning based on witness accounts.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office declined to charge either of the men, police said Monday. The two have been released.
The State's Attorney's office found the two men had acted in self-defense and did not want to pursue charges, a Chicago Heights police spokesman said.
Chicago Heights police and fire department paramedics had responded at about 2:39 a.m. on Friday to the apartment for a report of a stabbing victim.
The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force also was investigating the incident.
