Athlete of the Week: Childers Lifting Marian Tennis to New Heights

School records continue to fall for the Spartans' boys tennis team, led by Julian Childers.

Marian Catholic boys tennis player Julian Childers keeps checking off goals from his list.

First up was helping the Spartans win the conference title, the first in school history. Check.

Then, on Saturday at the Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional, Childers not only took first place in No. 1 singles, he also guided the Spartans to their first-ever sectional title. Childers defeated H-F’s Brad Holt, 6-4, 6-1, to win the sectional title. Double check.

In recognition of  his accomplishments, Childers is Patch’s Athlete of the Week.

Childers had set a goal before this season started to finish in the top six in state. But at the rate he and his fellow Spartans are going, they might want to shoot for an even better placing at this coming weekend’s state finals.

You can check out a video profile of Julian Childers in Patch’s Gimme 5 feature.
