Bloom Trail Grad Cato Breaks NCAA Record
Japheth Cato helped the University of Wisconsin finish fourth overall at the March 9 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Wisconsin Badger and former Bloom Trail High School grad Japheth Cato gave his team a lot to be proud of last week at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships. He ranked second place in the heptathlon with a score of 6,165 points—a career best and fourth best of all time among collegians, reports the University of Wisconsin.
Even as runner-up, Cato’s score still broke a record for highest non-winning score in NCAA meet history which makes him the first college athlete to achieve a score over 6,000 four times in a career. He now boasts three of the top eleven marks in college history.
“I broke my own record for the highest non-winning score,” Cato said. “I’m proud of myself and I’m proud of our team.”
The difference between his and the winning finish was “literally less than a second.”
