Chicago Heights Alderman Willie White Dead At 71
White, who had reportedly battled cancer, passed away Monday at an area hospital, city officials said.
Longtime Chicago Heights Alderman Willie J. White has died at age 71, according to a release from city officials.
White, who reportedly had battled cancer for a few years, was with family members when he died Monday evening at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, officials said.
Alderman White was first elected in 1999 as the 1st Ward Alderman in Chicago Heights.
He is credited with sponsoring several events, including a holiday food basket program that has provided food for an estimated 300 families in his ward.
Serving the needy in his community was "a passion" according to the release.
White was employed by the Chicago Heights Park District as a Facilities Manager. White, who was a member of the Unity Party, also served for more than two decades as the President of Elks Lodge #1252—Robert S. Abbott Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Denise, and son David.

We will miss his kindness, generosity, and love for life. Someone once said "For death begins with life's first breath and life begins at touch of death." Our loss is truly Heaven's gain.

Condolences to the family of Alderman Willie White from Pastor Rick Dorsey and the members of the Beacon Hill Baptist Church. We surely appreciate Alderman White's efforts to improve community life in Beacon Hill and throughout the 1st Ward of Chicago Heights. Alderman White's focus has always been on how he could help and be of assistance to the people of the 1st Ward, and actually, to people in general. His energies were always spent on helping others, and even when his personal illness tried to hold him back, Alderman White was pushing himself to move ahead. Alderman White will surely be missed throughout the community in which he lived and served for so many years.

I will miss my friend. I looked forward to seeing him every morning at the Rec Center. We always teased each other on who was a better team . I know deep down he really was a Cubs fan :) :) My mornings won't be the same without him. RIP Willie. My prayers to the family.

I am so sorry to hear about this latest loss. The Torch is being passed. It wasn't too long ago that Alex Lopez suddenly died in Chicago Heights and left a huge whole in the City/Park District and our hearts. I served at a time before Willie White became Alderman, but his dedication to the Park District prior to that have been unmatched. He loved maintaining the Park District and you could count on him. He wasn't wishy-washy he was out spoken yet quietly stayed professional.
It's not easy being a public servant. Anyone who has done the job knows that first hand. As I think about Willie going about his work at the PD, he was energetic and committed to the Recreation Center.
May he RIP and be blessed for the good deeds that he accomplished for others in the community. While I served my office as Park District Commissioner, Mr. White was always helpful and respectful to me. And that's all I asked of anyone. To his wife Denise (who is my former classmate) may you find peace in the memory of your lives together. I am truly sorry.
I admire Willie for his service and dedication to the Chicago Heights community overall. Thank you for allowing us to have Willie White for the time he was loaned to us by the heavens above. I only hope the best for Chicago Heights residence and for David as he searches for a replacement candidate.
God bless.
Thelma.
