The Associated Press is reporting that former Marian Catholic star and Chicago Heights native Dennis Kelly has been selected as a fifth round pick in the NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kelly is finishing up his senior year as an offensive tackle for the Purdue Boilermakers, where he started in every game the past three seasons. He is a graduate of Marian Catholic High School.
"I’m going to look back and say how much fun I’ve had,” Kelly said before his final season with Boilermakers last year. “The rarity of it, not everyone from Chicago Heights will get to play against teams like Oregon or Ohio State.”
At 6-foot-8, 381-pound Kelly is known for his aggressive play and intimidating size. He is suspected to provide depth at a position after the Eagles lost five-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters who tore his Achilles’ tendon in the off season.
Kelly is 153rd overall draft pick.
Patch will have more on this story later.
