Seven dogs have been rescued and eight people arrested after police busted a dog-fighting operation in south suburban Dolton, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Eight suspects were arrested on the scene in the 1500 block of East 142nd Street, including six who fled to the rafters as officers arrested the first two, according to the report.

Cook County sheriff's police received a tip about the fights, and officers on the scene witnessed the scenario before moving in to apprehend suspects.

The dogs showed "signs of improper care, abuse and indications of dog-fighting," according to a statement from TaQuoya Kennedy, spokesperson for Dolton. The village will work with an investigative unit specializing in dog-fighting to assist with charges and ongoing investigation.

The sheriff’s office sent evidence technicians, animal crimes investigators and animal control officers, according to Frank Bilecki, spokesman for the sheriff's office.

The dogs were taken to South Suburban Humane Society, in Chicago Heights.

Editor's note: This article initially stated there were ten dogs rescued from the Dolton dog-fighting operation. There were actually seven dogs rescued.

I hope these scumbags who are involved with this dog-fighting ring, are punished to the max. Anyone who allows this to happen or is in anyway responsible for such cruelty is the lowest form of life! They should all be put in a room and then let a bunch of us dog lovers at them! I'd love to be the first one in there!
