Fire Burns 1st-Floor Bedroom on Thorn Street

Investigators don't yet have an official cause for the Thursday afternoon fire.

Fire damaged the first-floor bedroom in a Thorn Street rental property Thursday afternoon.

The fire was confined to one room along the north wall of 1642 Thorn Street, according to one official. A bed and box spring were destroyed in the blaze.

The building is a two-floor rental property that has been rehabilitated within the last three years.

Power was cut off to the building and ComEd was on the scene Thursday. Smoke detectors inside the apartment had tripped.

The cause of the fire and a damage estimate were not immediately available.
