Gov. Quinn Schedules Elections to Replace Jesse Jackson Jr.

Quinn is trying to change one of the dates to avoid millions of dollars in election costs to replace former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.

The process to replace former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. will begin in February, according to Gov. Pat Quinn, who has set a special primary election for Feb. 26, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Quinn ordered a subsequent special general election for March 19, which will determine who will ultimately replace Jackson for the rest of his term.

The primary election occurs on the same date as the municipal primary elections. The special general election will be three weeks earlier than the actual general election because state law requires any special general election to be held within 115 days of a congressional vacancy occurring.

The special general election could still be moved to April 9, as Quinn said he would work with the General Assembly to change the state law in order to save money. Officials are estimating the financial burden of Jackson’s resignation to range in the millions

Several people have announced intentions to run for the 2nd District seat, including former U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson and frequent Jackson opponent Rev. Anthony W. Williams.

...and the cover-up is complete! Daley quits, Rahm places horse-heads in Illinois Supreme Court Justice's bed(s) to get approval to be Mayor, Brogo takes the fall and will await pardon, and Holder cover the whole mess up along with Fast & Furious - all because of the "PAY-FOR-SENATE-SCANDLE". There you have it - Chicago Politics at it's best!

I remember when Junior ran for the office in 95, and we thought how could be worse than Mel (R. Kelly) Reynolds and Gus Savage. I guess we were wrong. Junior makes Todd Stroger look like an Angel.

MAURICE THIS IS SORT OF IRONIC BUT I DO NOT LIVE IN THE 2nd CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT. I RAN IN THE 1st CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT IN THE 80'S . I WAS ABOUT 25 or SO. THEY BUMPED OFF MY PETITIONS BECAUSE I TRIED TO SLIDE BY WITHOUT NOTARIZING THEM. NEEDED WORK. MAURICE TODD WAS BEGGING HIS DADDY FOR JOBS AND THINGS THEN. thank you for the encouraging words BUT TODD's A CROOKED SLOBOCRAT FOR EVEN SUGGESTING HE WILL MOVE TO THE 2nd DISTRICT FROM THE HOUSE HE BEGGED AND MOOCHED FROM HIS DADDY AND AND FILE HIS CANDIDACY. THAT IS LUNATIC TALK AND PART OF THE THEATER OF THE GROTESQUE. BUM THAT HE IS HE CAN'T HOLD ON TO THE COUNTY PRESIDENT'S SEAT BECAUSE HIS IQ IS TOO PAID FOR BY HIS DADDY AND WHAT EVER IT REALLY IS I AM WILLING TO BET MY LIFE IT IS LOWER THAN A CRUMB SUCKING COCKROACH FROM MARYNOOK NOT PILL HILL.

All the stupidity being said aside, Quinn is doing the responsible thing and trying to avoid the extra expenses.

Wouldn't it be great if the state could claim the balance of JJJ's war chest to pay for the extra expenses caused by his failure to step aside?

Lynn Sweet, Chicago Sun-Times, reported some time ago that JJJr's campaign fund was just a little over $100,000. The campaign spent over one million dollars in the election cycle, but maybe did only one robo call and one email. The F.B.I is reportedly investigating, including a $40,000 watch purchased out of campaign funds and given to a female friend of JJJr. Joe Lake, Chicago

ATTENTION 2nd District,

This campaign again is ramping up at this moment to capture this congressional seat we unveil our new theme song:

"Give The People What They Want!" By The O'Jays

This is very appropriate as that is exactly what I intend to do when I am elected to congress... Listen to the lyrics...this is exactly my agenda!

We are rolling on here to bring the help the people of the 2nd District must have. It is through this seat in the hands of the people they will have a voice through Marcus Lewis to get the respect and resources they have been long denied.

NOW IS OUR TIME!

VOTE FOR MARCUS LEWIS FOR CONGRESS

"RECLAIMING THE PEOPLE'S SEAT FOR THE PEOPLE!"

The Editorial Board of the Kankakee City News has endorsed State Senator Toi Hutchinson in the upcoming Democratic Party Primary for election in the 2nd Congressional District the newspaper believes Senator Hutchinson has the knowledge and ability but more importantly, the honesty and sense of community to represent the interests of the people of the 2nd Congressional District.
By James H. Taylor Sr. – Publisher -
( I will be seeking the Republican nomination for the 2nd Congressional District and hopefully, will have the opportunity to debate Senator Hutchinson on the issues facing the residents of our district. Ours would be a campaign based on positive issues and alternatives and suggested courses of action to improve the quality of life for the people of the 2nd Congressional District. I suspect the main issue we will disagree on is I am pro-life and perhaps she is not. The other differences will center around budget and programming but the important thing is that we won’t get side tracked on none merit issues!)
