Heights Man Found Shot Outside Gas Station

The victim, Robert Fortson, was pronounced dead at St. James Hospital.

 

Chicago Heights man with several gunshot wounds was found outside of a Lincoln Highway gas station Tuesday morning.

Just before 11 a.m. Chicago Heights Police responded to a call about a shooting at the Mobil gas station in the 400 block of Lincoln Highway. When they arrived police found Robert Fortson, 40, laying in the parking lot with several gunshot wounds, according to police Head of Detectives Joseph Bruni.

Chicago Heights Fire Department personnel took Fortson to St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights where he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to police.

Police have a man in custody but have not released his name. An investigation into the death is ongoing.

This is terrible, the victim is the husband of a friend and I cannot begin to imagine how her and her family feel!! This is a senseless act that left a family without a husband and father!! Prayers for the Fortson family'

Absolutely not a commentary on the victim, but the "strip club" across the street brings in an element that brings down the entire area and puts good citizens at risk.
