More Than 100 Firefighters Battle Chicago Heights Blaze

The state fire marshall is investigating a fire at a large warehouse on Union Avenue.

The heavy snow coming down throughout Tuesday did not stop a Chicago Heights warehouse from erupting in flames.

Just after 1 p.m., the Chicago Heights Fire Department was dispatched to a blaze at a 320,000 square-foot abandoned warehouse in the 1600 block of Union Avenue. About 125 fire fighters battled the fire, including fire departments from several neighboring towns.

No injuries have been reported, and the state fire marshal is investigating.

Patch will post more information as it becomes available.

Thankfully there no injuries! Lots of men & equipment on a snowy afternoon and evening. Another piece of City's historical record destroyed. The buildng was formerly the Forster Textile Mill and, I'm told, supplied material to the Illinois Shade Cloth company located directly across the street in a very large three story brick building, portions of which are 100 years old. The Forster Building was of similar vintage.
