Motorcyclist Killed After Ignoring Emergency Lights: Police

Chicago Heights police said the rider was unresponsive at the scene of the crash.

A motorcyclist was killed in an accident after he ignored police attempts to get him to stop, according to police.

Shawn Mays, 51, of the 2000 block of Lioncrest Drive in Richton Park, died Wednesday after running into a  vehicle on Halsted Street in Chicago Heights, police said.

Mays was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of 14th Street near Edgewood, when police turned on emergency lights to get him to stop, according to press release from the .

"The motorcycle refused to stop and traveled at a high rate through our community," police said. "The officer lost sight of the vehicle and saw a huge plume of dust and debris in the area of 103 N. Halsted Street."

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered debris from a motorcycle on the street and in a nearby parking lot, and Mays was not conscious.

The Cook County Medical Examiner has ruled the death an accident caused by multiple injuries.
