I did listen to the taped conversation of the Rev. Andrew Singleton, Jr. supporting Jackson. It did not sound to me like he was trying to encourage people to vote for him. In fact, he says basically, This is me, you do what you need to do. And he wanted that to be clear. The Rev. seemed to be sharing a bit of a personal conversation they had together when the pastor visited Jackson.

On the other hand, pastors must be very careful what they say from the pulpit, even though they have a right to their own opinion.

That being said, I've read some of the postings of Candidate Marcus Lewis and I have not been persuaded to vote for him. This is one time I wish there were more candidates to choose from.

Now I understand why the IRS has not been able to successfully strip 501(c)3 status from many organizations. I believe most lawyers would be able to argue for or against this with this language.

Personally, I think I am going to write in my vote. The candidates offered all all unworthy of my vote this year!

Personally, I think I am worthy of the position of Congressman for the 2nd District.

I care about my district which is why I entered into this race despite long odds against me. I intend to serve the masses of the people who traditionally have always been left behind, left out, ignored, cast aside, left to fend for themselves. They are Americans and most need just a helping hand to be productive members of the district.

I, if elected, with the help of Almighty God, will give them that helping hand.

I have heard the tape and am of the opinion the pastor was clearly within his rights to address his membership. If, however, Lewis or anyone else believes that he has violated the IRS laws concerning 501 (c) (3) then file formal complaints! Seems that Mr. Lewis, although he sometimes to have good ideas,spends far to much time making charges against others instead of dealing with what he would do if elected. No doubt many of the people in the district need help and their plight is what needs to be addressed! I think all of the candidates, including Lewis, who have come forth and spoken to the voters deserve to be heard and respected for their efforts. Jesse Jr. does raise serious questions about his ability to lead when on the one hand he is supposed to be unable to even speak to the public, but can then claim to have enough mental ability to "pick up" his children from school. As a former DCFS Child Abuse Neglect Investigator, I think I would have to look very hard at a parent who allowed someone who could not speak in public due to a "mental illness"to pick up their children from school. Just my opinion and my opinion only. Such an action, depending on the age of the involved children, could constitute a child safety issue or child neglect. .

This is a case of "seeing what you want to see". Let's get some things straight here.

The pastor IS ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED FROM MAKING THE STATEMENTS HE MADE IN CHURCH AT THE PULPIT, DURNING A SERVICE, WHERE PEOPLE ARE LISTENING TO HIM. HE BEING THE PASTOR "KNOWS BEING AT THE PULPIT IS THE PLACE OF AUTHORITY. HE SPOKE IN FAVOR FOR THE REELECTION ON JACKSON JR. HE SAID NOTHING OF THE OTHER CANDIDATES ONLY JACKSON AND SPOKE OF HIM IN A POSITICE LIGHT.
The issue of you don't kick a man when he is down is ridiculous. Jackson is under 2 FBI investigations pending. Jackson isn't down, he is hiding. Finally the pastor on the audio said there was an election on Nov. 6 and he said he did not care about right and wrong. He said he would deal with that later. Clearly showing intent of the heart and of the mind he knew what he was doing.
There is no wiggle room when you read the law that was posted in this comments. That is why the Patch broke the story that other news organizations have picked up on it because of what we hear on the audio is amazing. This case is a classic case of "WE GOT YOU DEAD TO RIGHT.".

I have the duty as a candidate for this honorable seat in congress that has been dishonored for decades by the previous and the current congressman to bring to light his misdeeds so open-minded people will turn from him and vote for me. I can win this race. It should be a landslide in my favor in light of Jackson's foolish behavior.

I personally think that all church's tax exempt status should be revoked!! There is clearly no accountability for what the funds are used for.

This pastor may or may not have done something wrong, but I am still entitled to my opinion. Get that straight, Mr. Lewis. I took that to the polls.

Mr. Lewis, Other than your desperate attempt to convert Mrs. Dorn here, I have seen no campaigning of any kind. My husband and I were commenting that we knew who the candidates and issues in other districts are, but in our own district we only know that JJJr has had a melt down and fled to Mayo. Why focus on one church's comments, or one woman's comments while you let the rest of the district flip a coin?

Seems to me that Brian Woodworth is the man to vote for on November 6th if we want a representative who can and will represent the people of the district. I believe he hs some issues with his campaign petitions but in view of the way this campaign has progressed, he is still the best man for the job and he is a Christian and that mattes to me. If race is not an issue, Woodworth is the man for the job. I also wonder why the Chicago Tribune endorsed Woodworth in the Primary but did not in it's general election endorsement. That means they feel an absent Jackson is better than all three candidates, and that is a really one sided opinion and from now on the Tribune should be ignored by voters. After all, they can't even keep the paper out of debt so great that they may close.

It is also important for me to make it clear that I like Jesse Jr. and have known him since he was in his late teens, so my option for Woodworth is not a "hate Jesse deal". I just don't think anyone has a lock on an elected position. If you can't do the job, step aside. As for the other two guys seeking the post, I also know them both and have had dealings with Lewis that have caused me not want to vote for him, mainly because he accused my newspaper of being paid not to write about him and got back up on that garbage from Joe Lake. But even Lewis is better than an absent Jackson and in fairness, although he is a little self centered, he would do a fine job as congressman, again,much better than an absent Jackson. As for Anthony Williams, he has run so many times that his shoes should be on fire, but again, I think he would do a good job as well, he certainly has been a force for good in his Chicago neighborhoods. When black voters talk about white racism, they need to look inward and question is race why they won't vote for Woodworth? This district needs good, able leadership and we need it right now, not at some unknown time in perhaps the far off future! Get well Jesse Jr. and then run again in two years! Until then, voters need an able leader and as for Bobby Rush and Mr. Base Voice, (Mr. Davis) you need to stop being the house N and stop pimping the black community. Lead for real or get the hell out of the way of those who will.

Perhaps Mr. Lewis has done more harm to his campaign by involving himself with the likes of Joe Lake, who ever Joe Lake is! I for one have not had anybody say they know Mr. Lake or even heard of him prior to the Lewis efforts for a congressional seat. I certainly have not heard of any worthy community involvement by Mr. Lake the only thing I know is that the man says he sent some report to the FBI but the FBI has taken no action on the allegations - that leaves me wonderning what is Mr. Lake's real agenda. Mr. Lake keeps passing garbage but then that is his thing.

My campaign is piercing through decades of no action for this district that have stunted the forward progress for the residents of the former district borders.

Just look at the Villages of Harvey, Dixmoor, Phoenix, Robbins, Riverdale to name just a few.

The Chicago Southeast-side is left abandon and left to fend for itself which is why I am running to bring this Jackson-style of governing to a screeching halt!

But every area will get the focused attention they deserve.

I would suggest that who ever wins, even if it is Congressman Jackson that the first thing they do is ask the three other candidates to join them in development of plans for the district's future growth. This group of seemingly dedicated and knowledgable men can be what this district needs to bridge gaps in development and planning that have plagued the area now known as the second district for decades. Working together these individuals, Republican and Democrat and Independent can do much to help the area and it's many resident realize the rewards that are in store for this community with able leadership, with united leadership. All these guys should be commended for taking the steps needed and necessary to get on the ballot and striving to represent us a community. Often in the course of a campaign things can and often do get harsh but the goal of a better community justify such actions but the real reward is learning we as a commuity can depend on the fact that we have men who want to make life better for us all. The Second District has a great future and we should all be proud to lie within the district.

Jackson held a 58-to-27 percent lead over Republican challenger Brian Woodworth in the survey from WeAskAmerica. Independent challenger Marcus Lucas carried 15 percent of those surveyed.

Jackson's lead came primarily from his district's large African-American population; more than eight in 10 black respondents said they planned to vote for the congressman. Jackson's district, on the South Side of Chicago, is heavily Democratic, with 81 percent of voters backing President Obama in 2008.

The nine-term congressman announced in June that he was taking a leave of absence for "exhaustion," but later disclosed he was suffering from bipolar disorder. On Friday, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Jackson, who had been staying at his home in Washington, D.C., after undergoing treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, would return to the treatment facility.

The survey of 819 voters in Illinois's 2nd district carried a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent.
