Poll: Should Mayor Gonzalez be Going to the Democratic National Convention?
The elected delegate told Sun-Times Media he would not be making an appearance at the big event, which begins Tuesday.
Heights Mayor and elected delegate David Gonzalez turned heads again, after a Friday Sun-Times story revealed he would not be attending the Democratic National Convention next week.
The convention, which kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 4, in Charlotte, NC, is a major election-year event that will feature appearances from political notables, music stars and a speech from President Barack Obama. Most registered Democrats would be thrilled to a attend such an event.
So why isn't Gonzalez going? He told Sun-Times reporter Casey Toner he was too busy with his mayoral duties and his accounting business.
What do you think of Gonzalez's decision to forego the convention? Are you happy to hear he considers his duties in the Heights more important? Are you skeptical of his reasons?
Let us know what you think by voting in the poll and leaving a comment.

There has got to be another reason he isn't going.
He hasn't done anything in town thus far,why start now and as for his other business, this is the slowest time.

Jason, we all know how you feel about this mayor and his administration. But its getting a bit old with the never ending negative responses. Hope you have a great Sunday anyway. Hope the rain holds off and let some sunshine in. Deep Breaths.

Mike,I hope you have a great Sunday to.i will continue the negative comments until this mayor does something positive, and I don't see that happening anytime soon. My negativity is just another voice in this community I call home.

Let me say it would not have surprised me if the Mayor did go considering his connection with Crook County. I'm not impressed, Because his choice not to go is for the benefit of the people of Chicago Heights or his title of Mayor was done so for political reasons, i'm sure.

Interesting...there are 4 votes and one of them is mine. It is showing that 3 people think he has plenty to do here and 1 is Other. I guess my vote of He should go doesn't count! Oh well...It's the Heights, what do I expect!

Jason, why would that be the case? Both Lisa and Andrew Madigan are going. You really think that having Dave Gonzalez down there would just be too much for Mike Madigan to handle? Not likely. Your conspiracy theories are funny though, I'll give you that.

Winston, I don't normally respond when you and Jason are going at it. But I would have to agree with you. I doubt that he was asked not to go. Da Mayor has a young family and a City to run along with his business. Jason, in politics there is something called sour lemons. Just keep involved with the community, and I am sure eventually you will get elected to something. On another note, What is everyone doing for the holidays?

Jason is just still angry about getting caught cheating in the last election by forging election documents . Funny how the Patch never reported that . The only convention Amos will be at and has been to is the Dino's Covention . Where they all sit around and blame others for thier own personal under achievemts in life . I see how even Deabel now trys to distance himself from the Integrity "I cheated " party .

NO , he had someone forge is notary signature on his filing petitions . Rather than face the electoral Board , he withdrew his papers . So that is how he ended up running as a write in . So he blames Ginzales for challenging his cheating .

Why would ANY Chicago Heights taxpayer want to fund a trip to the convention?? What would be gained by any of us?? Yeah, the mayor would have a great time, but c'mon, why blow the money????

@NotBuyingIt, exactly. And most of us know, that if he did go. A ton of folks including ^^^^^^^^Above would be speaking about how is the mayor going to spend our tax money to rub elbows on taxpayers back.

@Joe, if you noticed. He never denied it. And Jason is pretty good with responding back pretty damn quick. If this is true and we wont know unless he speaks out. But if its true, than he has no room to be critical of anyone due to his credibility is out the door!!!!!!!!

Anyway the article is asking about weather the Mayor should go . It's really up to him and his time . No City work can get done down there , so it's more of hobnobbing with high profile celebrities . Once in a lifetime opportunity and I would go if I had the chance . Unless Gonzalez is Going for Romney ... LOL .

The reason I took myself off the ballot was because the notary wasn't who they said they were no excuse, although Dave had his Rats in our group"and you know who you are"the fact is until this Mayor does something for this town my negativity will continue until he changes things,or someone else takes over. The Park Commisioner job is a volunteer position, what was the need for me to be taken off the ticket? Ill tell you why,the Park is "the bread and butter"for this administration!
The only forging going on during the election were illegals getting library cards to vote!!!
This article isn't about me,but I don't mind,I will keep going along with my posts and look forward to all of yours.

Oh yea Jason , the article is not about you ? But you always reespond with negative info on Mayor that has nothing to due with article . It's just time to
Let people know why you are do negative . I read that your tax bill went down 600 dollars because of the new administration . But you kept really quiet about that , didn't you ? Your integrity party , joe Faso raised your tax bill and yet I haven't heard a peep . Why ? Illegals voting with Library Cards ? Is that the best you can come up with ? Is that how really stupid you are about election law ? State Election law has better controls and rules than the election procedures at Dino's , on who buys the next drink ...

I think it's a big deal if the taxpayers have to fund the trip!!! It would have to be a few thousand dollars, just for the mayor to have a fun vacation at taxpayer expense??? Why would anyone be in support of this??

If being a delegate does not matter why were the residents of Chicago Heights asked to sign a petition supporting DG to be a delegate? As far as the comments about other mayors attending. Anyone can go to convention, however not anyone can be a delegate.

Well, since there is a certain amount of paperwork to become a delegate we must assume that at the time of the primary the mayor intended to go. Now, apparently he has changed his mind.
It is, of course, his prerogative to do so but it would seem to be a breach of faith to those who signed is delegate petitions and who voted expecting him to go and represent them. It would seem to me that since he gave his word to those people he should explain to them why he has changed his mind.
Since the answer given so far is "family and business" I think we must conclude that those things are more important to him than his duties as a delegate, again setting such priorities is his prerogative.
However it seems to me that his prior actions created a covenant of trust with the people who supported him. What has happened that those people now have a different priority than at the time he asked for their support?

Hello, he was going as an Obama Delegate. Do you see anyone opposing Obama at the Convention? You guys really need to get more educated on poliitics. I am sure there are plenty from South suburbs that will nominate Obama as the Democratic Candidate for President . (Suprise, Suprise) . And those that sign a petition is to have that person resprent them as an OBAMA delegate. An Obama Delegate can only vote for him. No one else. There are alternate delegates that step in to nominate OBAMA . So nothing changes . By the end of the week , OBAMA will be the nominee. DUH

Agree we all knew Obama would be the Dem candidate a year ago so based on your comments the question is why go through the process of having petitions signed/processed to become a delegate.
