Retired Cop Helps a Would-Be Thief: Names in the News

One item in last week's police blotter revealed the kind side of a former cop after he stopped a thief, June 20. What he did next was commendable.

He wanted to remain anonymous, according to the police report. So his name won't appear in the news, but a retired Cook County police officer had an eventful Wednesday evening as he stopped a woman from committing theft at the Walgreen's on Western Avenue, according to the report.

After the store manager allowed the woman to pay for some of her items using LINK, the cop foot the bill for the rest of the items, including a couple of water guns.

Read about the "kind-hearted cop" and several other items in the police blotter.
