South Chicago Heights to Share Ambulances with Park Forest

The village board made the final decision on the agreement Monday.

The South Chicago Heights Village Board approved a new ambulance sharing agreement with Park Forest Monday night.

The agreement with Park Forest was approved during the board’s regular business meeting. The village’s former agreement with Crete Township was withdrawn when the latter built a third station, said Fire Chief Larry Nardoni. Park Forest has had a sharing agreement with Matteson and other communities for about 10 years. It will cost South Chicago Heights $500 to buy into the arrangement for one year, he said.

Park Forest keeps its ambulances about four years before replacing them, he said. Currently, only one ambulance is available because the second is in New Lenox undergoing repair.

In other business, trustees authorized new state-mandated provisions governing the village’s automated traffic system. Some of the provisions the village already complies with; for example, all citations are reviewed by a police officer before tickets are issued, Police Chief William Joyce said.

The new rules also extend the grace period for paying tickets, he said. Under the prior rule, motorists had 30 days to pay the fine before it doubled. Now they have 60 days.
