Weekly Recap: Dr. King, CarmelCorn and the Bears
A look back at Chicago Heights Patch stories, Jan. 16-21.
This week Chicago Heights Patch is wrapping up a little early to prepare for our coverage of the big game tomorrow. More on that in a bit. For now here's what happened throughout the week.
Week started off with two big celebrations in Chicago Heights and Olympia Fields, honoring the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In sports Rich Central's girls had a rough week, with losses to Waubonsie Valley and Bloom. Ron Kremer also pumped out the basketball power rankings, with Marian Catholic topping the girls despite a loss to Nicolet, and Bloom moving up to second place for the boys, although the boys' lost to Crete-Monee may have put them in danger of slipping back down.
We also started a little contest this week. Anyone in the south 'burbs who correctly guesses the Bears-Packers score has a chance to win a $150 Target gift card.
School District 170 could receive some assistance in encouraging healthy living in its students and parents if a local coalition has its way, but with mysterious individuals lurking outside the schools, the district has bigger concerns than eating right.
We did a video profile of Big Lew and his boxing program at the West Golf Course.
Our Historic Heights column returned this week with a restaurant and a popcorn shop that have weathered the economic storm.
We capped the week off with a video interview with Rockie Fresh, a 19-year-old Homewood rapper with big dreams.
Now for the Bears. Later today, we'll be posting some of the best places in the Heights to watch them beat the Packers. Tomorrow expect to see post game reactions to the big game.
Until then, enjoy your weekend, and avoid cheese at all costs.
