Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser Coming to Union Street Art Gallery

The Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs will host its Hard Hats and High Heels wine tasting and food pairing fundraiser Friday, May 10, at the Union Street Art Gallery. The event is designed to help raise funds to continue the organization's work.

The Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs is coming to Chicago Heights this May to celebrate 25 years of serving the south suburbs. The event, which is Friday, May 10, will take place at the Union Street Art Gallery, 1527 Otto Boulevard. Dubbed Hardhats and High Heels Wine, Beer and Food Pairing, the event kicks off at 7 p.m. and will last until 10 p.m. During the event attendees will have the opportunity to purchase fresh, hand-rolled cigars, bid in a 'chance auction' and enjoy music from Heart to Heart. The event is designed to raise money so that the organization can continue its work within the community. Union Street Gallery to Host Art & Jazz Festival

Union Street Gallery is hosting a free arts and jazz festival to close out their Rediscovering Chicago Heights Photo Voice Project. All are welcome to stop by on Saturday, May 11 from noon to 6 p.m. to enjoy live music, food, drinks and other activities for the whole family to enjoy. Visitors can also get a chance to mingle with the local photographers who contributed to the Rediscovering Chicago Heights Pohto Voice Project. According to eNews Park Forest, the endeavor is a grant project funded by Chicago Community Trust that showcases citizen photography to illustrate the hidden meaning and beauty of Chicago Heights. SouthSTAR Services, Chicago Heights Resident's Photos on Display at Union Street Gallery

Brian Denton, a SouthSTAR Services and Chicago Heights resident who is developmentally disabled, was chosen to display two of his photos at the Union Street Gallery's 'Rediscover Chicago Heights,' exhibit. Denton called the honor a 'dream come true.'

As the part of Rediscover Chicago Heights events that are taking place around town, Heights and SouthSTAR Services resident Brian Denton will show off his passion for photography with a display at the Union Street Gallery. Brian Denton, who is developmentally disabled, was chosen to show his photos after he took part in SouthSTAR's 'Dare to Dream' program. “This is a dream come true for me,” Denton said in a press release. “I love taking pictures of people and different things in Chicago Heights, but also want to take pictures in a bunch of different places around Illinois.” Several years ago, Denton said he got his first camera from his father, for Christmas. With camera in hand, Denton began shooting various places and people, expanding …

Show Dates, Cast Announced for Bloom's Production of 'The Color Purple'

The Bloom High School Drama Club will perform 'The Color Purple,' this weekend, April 19 to 21. The show features 60 students in the cast and crew.

The Bloom High School Drama Club is set to bring the groundbreaking 'The Color Purple' to the Workman Auditorium stage this weekend, April 19 to 21. The musical, which features 60 students in the cast, crew and ensemble, is based on the Marsha Norman book of the same name, with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. 'The Color Purple' is being directed by Nadima Zegar, with assistant director, Stephen Lopez. David Seifert will handle pit director duties and the technical director is Kevin Huizenga.
