Hundreds of People in Two Days Applied For No-Cost Health Insurance at CountyCare Resource Fairs, hosted by Cook County Board Commissioner Joan Patricia Murphy (6th District)

Cook County Board Commissioner Joan Patricia Murphy (6th District) hosted two resource fairs where hundreds of people applied for the new no-cost health insurance program called CountyCare. Cook County Health and Hospitals System (CCHHS), Access Community Health Network, and Aunt Martha’s Youth Service Center and Health Center provided information and assisted Cook County residents with the application process. The resource fairs took place on June 26 at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Ill. and June 27 at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, Ill.

Once a CountyCare member, people are not required to pay for covered services, including prescription drugs, routine doctor visits, hospital stays, laboratory and x-ray services, mammograms, mental health services, public transportation, and other services.

To qualify, you must live in Cook County, be 19-64 years of age without dependents at home, have a Social Security number and be a legal immigrant for at least 5 years or a U.S. citizen. Yearly income must be below $15,282 for an individual or $20,628 per couple. You must not be receiving or eligible for Medicaid, Medicare or CHIP.

Although the resource fairs are over, people can still apply for CountyCare. Cook County residents interested in applying should call 312-864-8200 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., or Saturday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. To learn more about the CountyCare program, visit www.CountyCare.com.
