Aunt Martha's Pub Quizzers Mix It Up in Flossmoor

At the Aunt Martha's Pub Quiz at Thursday night, beers were cold, burgers were hot and the team names were ridiculous.

As Crete-based disc jockey Rex Albrecht prepared to run the quiz rounds, Aunt Martha's staffer Sarah Hamilton collected the names of the evening's trivia teams: "We Rock the Boat," "Don't Taze Me Bro" and the third team, formerly known as "The Twelve Days of Christmas," which reincorporated as "Team One" for the evening. Finally, the fourth team: "Hope We Score More Than the Hawks."

After a reminder to the teams that iPhone bailouts are forbidden, the brutal evening of quizzing commenced:"What day and month does Cinco de Mayo fall on?" Bill Hoessler and Joe Scroggins of Team One looked dumbstruck. Angela David, of We Rock the Boat gave them a friendly, but incredulous stare, "You're kidding, right?"

DJ Albrecht moved to the second question: "What pizza used the slogan, 'Better Ingredients, Better Pizza?"

"Hey, I know this one," said Scroggins.

During a break between quiz rounds, Hamilton, 25, reflected on the purpose of the pub quiz.

"It's really to have fun with friends and raise awareness of Aunt Martha's," she said. "We charge $10 to play, and you can win a $20, $25 Visa gift card. Also, kids are welcome."

Although many see Olympia Fields-based strictly as a provider of youth services, the organization actually serves people of all ages, said Hamilton. "In this economy, when people lose their jobs, more and more they turn to our services," she said.
