In a new weekly series we like to call Announced, we will be taking a look back at the announcements of the past seven days. Plenty of good things happened this week, and we want to make sure you all know about them.

Chicago Heights

- Denyale Upchurch-Boles, of Chicago Heights, received an associate's degree from Kaplan University during graduation ceremonies for its winter 2011 class in Miami.

- The Chicago Heights School District 170 girls eighth grade basketball team was honored this week for its second place finish in the recent Illinois Elementary School Association state tournament.

South Chicago Heights

- On Feb. 12, members of the South Suburban Dulcimer and Folk Music Society visited the Steger-South Chicago Heights Library to perform their style of music and show off their unique instruments.

Prairie State College

- Employers looking for candidates to fill open positions are invited to register for the Prairie State College annual job fair scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Business and Community Education Center of Prairie State College, 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights.

- At the Northwestern University tournament, which included both two-year and four-year colleges and universities, the PSC team placed fifth overall.

Marian Catholic High School

- Four years of Theology are required at Marian Catholic, with studies ranging from Social Issues and Ethics, Marriage and the Family, Christian Lifestyles, World Religions, and Discovery in Service. Hansen’s seniors take an opportunity to look at how our lives are balanced among our Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, and Spiritual (PIES) needs.

- Sparked by four individual champions and nine overall state qualifiers, Marian Catholic scored 41 points on Feb. 12 to edge out Oak Lawn (39) for the Reavis IHSA Sectional championship.

Governors State University

- Chastity Wells-Armstrong received the Emerging Leaders Award this month at an NASW Illinois luncheon in Chicago.

- Governors State University is hosting the 2011 Illinois Community College Juried Art Exhibition, through Feb. 26 in the college's Visual Arts Gallery. This exhibition includes artwork from 99 students representing 16 Illinois community colleges including College of DuPage, Joliet Junior College, Kankakee Community College, Prairie State College, South Suburban College and the City Colleges of Chicago.

- Ryan Williamson, a 2008 Governors State University accounting graduate, recently received the Elijah Watt Sells Award from the American Association of Certified Public Accountants.
