Business Booms for These Bloom Trail Students: Whiz Kids

This week's Whiz Kids are headed to our nations capitol, thanks to their business-minded approach.

Fourteen Bloom and Bloom Trail High School students will be traveling to Washington, D.C. May 4 thanks to their performance at the recent Illinois State Leadership Business Professionals of America conference, held in Oak Brook.

Four students from Bloom Trail won first place in the contest and will compete in the BPA national event. They are featured today on Whiz Kids.

Patch Whiz Kids Age: 18

Whiz Kids School: Bloom Trail High School

Whiz Kids Accomplishment:  For the last three years, Dominic has placed first in the design team in BPA state competition. He will join three others on his team at the BPA Nationals competing in network design, computer security and more.

Whiz Kids Goal: Dominic plans to go to college for computer security and computer information.

Patch Whiz Kid of the Week:  Jeremy Carson

Patch Whiz Kids Age:  17

 Whiz Kids School: Bloom Trail High School

Whiz Kids Accomplishment:  Winning first place at state in the BPA design team. Becoming more well-rounded in other areas such as speech and personality.

Whiz Kids Goal:  The main goal right now is to place in the top three in BPA Nationals.

Jeremy’s future plan is to open up a business in the gaming industry, with partners. Jeremy would like to revolutionize the gaming market.

Patch Whiz Kid of the Week:  Michael Flood

Patch Whiz Kids Age:  17

Whiz Kids School:  Bloom Trail High School

Whiz Kids Accomplishment:  President of the Business Professionals of America for the Bloom Trail Chapter.

Michael has been on the network design team since his freshman year, qualifying for BPA Nationals each year, and researching and building on network technologies.

Whiz Kids Goal:  To open up a gaming company with Jeremy Carson as his partner.

Patch Whiz Kid of the Week:  Sarah Toole

Patch Whiz Kids Age:  17

Whiz Kids School:  Bloom Trail High School

Whiz Kids Accomplishment:  First place in BPA at state in computer security. First place with the team.

Whiz Kids Goal:  Sarah plans to go to college and become a chef. 

The four students all volunteer at Bloom Trail to raise funds for the BPA Nationals, because the 12 participants in the nationals are required to pay their own way to Washington D.C. The students run a coffee cart for the teachers, to raise the funds.

Fundraising is an important part of BPA. The students are selling raffle tickets for a new iPad 2 as well as tickets to a Chicago Cubs game. A record number of students in School District 206 have qualified for the national BPA contest.
