Photo Gallery: Never Forget, Forever Honor

A look at the Chicago Heights Memorial Day Celebration at the Veterans Mound.

Held on May 30 at the Veterans Mound, the Chicago Heights Memorial Day Celebration featured residents, city officials and veterans who paid tribute to those who have served in the military. The event featured remarks by Mayor David A. Gonzalez, the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by Phylis Renee Marconi and remarks by local veterans organizations.

For Vietnam veteran Ed McNamara Jr., events like these offer him a chance to remember fellow comrades.

“I come out to these events because it helps me and others remember those who have served,” said McNamara. “A lot of guys went over there and never came back. So for me, it's just my chance to thank them.”

World War II veteran Guido Markionni agreed. “When I come to Memorial Day events, it offers me a chance to honor those who gave their lives,” remarked Markionni. “And to also honor those who came back.”

A reception immediately followed the Memorial Day Celebration.
