The Top 3 Things This City Needs

Steps towards building a better Chicago Heights are underway. What are your priorities?

Nearly 100 Chicago Heights residents gathered together at the Chicago Heights Park District on Nov. 13 to vision a future Chicago Heights.

It was another step in the in the process to develop a new strategic plan for the city, and it’s fueled by a $100,000 grant from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP).

At the end of the meeting, participants voted on their top three priorities for the city. They are:

  1. A revitalized downtown marketplace/business corridor, filled with sustainable mom n’ pop-type shops and possible high-end chains.
  2. The creation on a live/work/play community, involving more work on parks and a potential community performing arts center.
  3. The development of a Metra train station in downtown Chicago Heights and other transit oriented development.

Other ideas such as free city-wide wi-fi and food access plans were also in the running.
