Weekly Recap: Ballot Banter and a Heights Homicide

Chicago Heights Patch stories, Feb. 20-26

Talk about an eventful week. Chicago Heights Patch saw a lot of  traffic this week, mostly because of our preliminary election coverage, a big win for Marian Catholic's girls and a tough loss for Bloom's boys.

Then we finished the week off with a homicide. The unfortunate and dark side of being a journalist is that your publication gets the most views when somebody dies. Because Patch was the first to report on a shooting death in the 800 block of Sangamon Street, we saw a huge increase in users.

Another big event this week, the heroic rescue or a Park Forest woman from the second story of her home just before it was engulfed in flames. Patch reporter Mary Compton was on the scene to snap photos. We also had a chat with the AT&T workers that performed the brave rescue.

Oh, and lets not forget about the guilt verdict for Cecil Conner. The Steger resident admitted to driving drunk, leading to an accident that killed a five-year-old boy. His defense was that Chicago Heights police officer Chris Felicetti ordered him to drive.

We also have started taking questions for our video interview with Bloom Supt. Glen Giannetti in the first edition of our new series "The Tough Questions."

Like I said, eventful.

In case you missed anything, here are the top stories on Chicago Heights Patch this past week.

This week, expect more coverage of the homicide, and a list of candidates set to appear on the South Chicago Heights election ballot. We will also be taking a closer look at the referendum the Olympia Fields Park District added to village ballot.

Tuesday, in particular, will be exciting. This is when we'll start posting profiles of the election candidates so you can learn a little more about them.

Enjoy what's left of your weekend, folks! Chicago Heights Patch will be here with more great local coverage Monday.
