Stupidity Over Safety

Speed bumps vs. concrete barriers.

About a year ago I brought up a concern about speeders driving through Beacon. I suggested that strategically placed speed bumps would decrease the collisions, if not eliminate the safety concern altogether. When I brought this to the City Council meeting during public participation, I was met with the quick response from David Gonzalez that there was a concern about snow plows.

First, I can tell a 'brush off' no matter how talented a person is with polishing lies. Second I cannot believe an area that has had this problem for 3 decades is ignored so blatantly. There is no issue with snow plows. There are already speed bumps in Chicago Heights. They can spread and repeat a lie as much as they would like to, however it will never make it a truth. Furthermore, the City of Chicago has had speed bumps in high traffic areas for more than twenty years. If a City with the responsibility of clearing snow from 2400 square miles of road way can survive with speed bumps; I am sure Chicago Heights can do the same for the small area of Beacon, and anywhere else in Chicago Heights that has a high speed/high traffic problem.

I cannot believe a City Council so set on how much they are doing for Chicago Heights is willing to overlook such a high potential risk of safety. This is evidence that the stop light cameras are truly revenue generators. Here I offer a viable passive method to control traffic and it is ignored. I am sure once legislation for speed ticketing devices is passed that there will be such a device in this very same problematic area.

On my way home for lunch I see concrete barriers in the corner of Beacon Boulevard. This is nothing more than insult to a self-evident injury.
There is no way anyone in the Country Club neighborhood, or any portion of the north end of Chicago Heights would tolerate this. However you give a poorly educated community the crumbs and they are willing to take it. I really feel bad for the poeple of Beacon and the East Side because they are being defecated on and they do not realize it.

In the last three years there have been seven collisions in this corner, two of which destroyed the same fire hydrant within 30 days. One collision destroyed property of three diffeent home owners. Another loss of control was that of a car sliding down the side walk. Children play here, some people really do use the side walk. Chicago Heights solution is to put up concrete barriers in a person's yard.... this could not even be considered a band-aid let alone any real type of correction to the problem. The collision occur on both sides of the street. They have informed the construction crew to help spread the lie, saying speed bumps cause cars to hydroplane out of control. Now tell me where have YOU witnessed a speed bump in the apex of a curve?

I refuse to be a part of anything where equality is infringed. This blatant mis-use of power, this blatant encroachment on the citizens of Beacon is the direct result of a City Council that is not diverisfied in its needs or wants. As long as he keeps serving the citizenry polished lies as truth, Chicago Heights will never have equality.
