Marian Catholic High School Band Teams with Northshore Concert Band for Spring Concert

The 110-member Northshore Concert Band will join musicians of the Marian Catholic Symphonic Band for a special concert April 27 at Governors State University in University Park.

Northshore Concert Band performs throughout the Chicago metropolitan area and has become internationally known and respected for its musical excellence, leadership in community music, and service to music education.
 
Marian Catholic Symphonic Band director Greg Bimm welcomes the opportunity to co-host a concert with one of the most influential and respected symphonic bands in the country.
 
“This concert couldn’t come at a better time,” remarked Bimm, now in his 33rd year at Marian.
 
“The graduating seniors had the experience of marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and most recently, the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena,” he said. “They have also attended clinics at Marian presented by some of the most successful musicians in the world. By participating in this concert with the Northshore Concert Band, they will see that their musical futures do not have to end with graduation, but can continue long into adulthood if that’s where their journey and their desire take them.”
 
Northshore Concert Band musicians come from throughout the Chicago area and southern Wisconsin and represent many professional backgrounds. Approximately half are professional music educators; the rest have a diverse set of occupations including business executives, attorneys, and physicians. Musicians range in age from 20 to 85. The musicians’ average tenure is 15 years, with one-third having tenures of 20 years or more. All of the musicians are selected by audition and are strongly committed to volunteering their time and talents to the group.
 
Mallory Thompson, director of bands and professor of conducting at Northwestern University, serves as NCB’s artistic director and is in great demand throughout the United States as a guest conductor and clinician.
 
Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert at Governors State University are $5, available at the door or from any Marian Catholic band student.
