PSC Announces Winners of "Verge" Local High School Art Exhibition

Works of art created by talented students from five local high schools are on display at Prairie State College's juried art exhibition. The annual exhibit, titled "Verge," features young artists from schools across PSC's district, including Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Marian Catholic High School, Bloom Township High School, Rich East High School and Beecher High School.
 
The exhibit runs from March 21 through April 14 in PSC's Christopher Art Gallery, located at 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights. A reception will be held on Thursday, April 7 from 6-8 p.m., with the awards ceremony and announcement of winners at 7 p.m.
 
Best of Category winners include: Lena Schmidt, Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Best of Show; Amy Ziems, Marian Catholic High School, Best Painting; Alexis DiGiovanni, Marian Catholic High School, Best Mixed Media; Alexander Schultz, Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Best Drawing; Alexis Brooks, Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Best Graphic Design; and Ashley Peters, Rich East High School, Best Photo.
 
Merit Award winners include: Nicole Webb, Homewood-Flossmoor High School; Sarah Armstrong, Homewood-Flossmoor High School; Teresa Arenas, Bloom Township High School; Jacob Bohlen, Marian Catholic High School; Cydne Garrett, Rich Central; Brandon O’Neal, Rich East High School; Katrina Szewka, Beecher High School; and Jaraud Loft, Rich East High School.
 
All high schools in the PSC district were invited to participate in the annual show, which features a variety of media including computer art, drawing, graphic design, mixed media, painting, photography, and sculpture. Entries were submitted through the high school art departments and judged by PSC's art faculty.
 
“Verge is a wonderful representation of talented young artists. It is always a pleasure to look over the works entered for this exhibition. Each student put forth great effort to create their work. Each year we see new ideas and wonderful projects. Sculpture was particularly strong this year. I look forward to seeing the participants at the reception,” said Lou Shields, associate professor, art history fine and applied arts.
 
Hours for the Christopher Art Gallery are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visits can be made by appointment.
