Ragdale Residency Leads to Art Exhibit at GSU

The artwork created by Jeff Stevenson during his recent Ragdale Foundation residency will be on exhibit at the Governors State University Visual Arts Gallery from July 15-30.

A reception and open house will be held on Sunday, July 17, from 1-5 p.m.

The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Stevenson, a GSU lecturer and director of the Visual Arts Gallery, attended Ragdale with other visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists from around the world. They were given time and space to create new works as well as interact and connect with other artists in residence. Ragdale is located in Lake Forest.

During his residency, his main project was a 42-inch by 30-foot long mixed media work on paper, “Finding the Line.” It will be on display with additional works created by Stevenson.

“The idea for the piece came out of my 100 drawings in 100 days project in which I challenged myself to develop a studio practice that reflected what I was teaching others in my creativity class and coaching,” said Stevenson. “I continued this concept and applied it to a larger scale at Ragdale.”

The Visual Arts Gallery is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 5-9 p.m., Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., and by appointment. The gallery is located adjacent to E Lounge, Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park, Illinois.
