The Drama Group is presenting as the opening show of its 81st season, Smokey Joe’s Café: The Songs of Leiber & Stoller, directed by Judith E. Felix. Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jerry Leiber, one of the most prolific, successful and well-respected lyricists of the 50’s and 60’s, passed away August 22nd at the age of 78. Along with partner Mike Stoller, the two wrote hits such as Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock, Yakety Yak (Don’t Talk Back) and Spanish Harlem.

Performances will be Oct.14, 15, 21 and 22 at 7:30pm and Oct. 16, 22 and 23 at 2 p.m. at the, which is located at 330 W. 202nd Street, Chicago Heights.

Tickets are $20.00 for adults and $19.00 for seniors and $15 for students with ID; group discount rates are also available. Tickets are available by calling the Drama Group box office at (708) 755-3444.

The in Chicago Heights will be hosting the National Juried Exhibit "Being Human," starting Oct. 12 and ending Nov. 12, with no admission charge. Jurored by Dan Addington, Director of the Addington Gallery in Chicago, the event will showcase the work of many artists and reveal several elements that encompass what it means to be human.

The reception will be taking place Oct. 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Gallery.

The Natural Science Department is hosting the South Suburban Earth Science Club Fossil, Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 to 16, at the Prairie Center Gym on PSC’s main campus at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.

The annual show is an opportunity for gem and fossil enthusiasts to meet the experts, get a close look at the latest finds, learn about the geological history of the area, and purchase rare gems, fossils, and artifacts.

Park Forest

The band Abraxas, will perform a musical tribute to Carlos Santana covering five decades of Santana hits with special guest Alex Ligertwood (formerly of Santana). Inspired by the incredible intensity of his music, Abraxas shares a passion for recreating the electrifying sounds of Carlos Santana. Audiences, without exception, have been awed by the authentic Santana sound that Abraxas delivers during their stunning shows.

The band will perform at Freedom Hall, located at 410 Lakewood Blvd in Park Forest, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 14. Tickets are $24.
