Business Comings & Goings: Chicago Heights to Acquire Union Street Gallery, 56 Other Properties

A look at new businesses coming into town and a fond farewell to those that have, for whatever reason, called it quits.

The city plans to rent the building to the for a nominal fee of $1 per year.

The other properties will be acquired at little or no cost to the city through property tax scavenger sales with an eye toward future development near a proposed downtown Metra station that will be part of the planned Southeast Commuter Rail Transit District running from downtown Chicago to Balmoral Park in Crete.

New Name for Salon

The International Beauty Salon was recently renamed Nora’s Beauty Salon at 2709 Chicago Road in South Chicago Heights. For information, call owner Nora Cripe at 708-248-5256.

Visitors Bureau Gets New PR Manager

The Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau announced that Scott Bort, of Griffith, Ind., is the new Public Relations Manager for the CVB. He replaces Bob Lukens who is leaving to become the Muskegon County, MI., community development director.

Bort is a native of Oak Lawn, and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005.

PSC Hosts Hispanic Business Connection

is hosting the Hispanic Professional Connection on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Conference Center Room 1318 as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. The program gives students the chance to meet and network with Hispanic professionals in different fields.
