Lincoln Mall Issued One-Week Deadline, Faces Closure

A Cook County judge ordered the mall's owner to present Matteson with a remediation plan by next week.

Editor's Note: An initial breaking news alert claimed the mall was closing immediately. This is incorrect and the story has been updated.

If Lincoln Mall doesn't make a plan to shape up by next week, it will be forced to close.

That's the ruling Judge Thomas J. Condon issued Thursday's regarding the Village of Matteson's lawsuit to shut the once popular shopping center.

"We felt the Judge was sensitive, as we are, to the plight of the tenants and business owners who are the innocent victims in this situation," reads a statement from the Village of Matteson. "We hope the mall owner will comply with this order so the dangerous conditions can be resolved.”

The mall's closure, should it occur, will affect the employment of over 100 people among 45 different retailers.
