Mayor: New $23M Senior Living Center 'Is So Needed Here'

The brand new senior care facility located at 1040 Dixie Highway features 144 rooms and 100,000 square feet of space.

Chicago Heights authorities recently gathered with local seniors and developers to unveil the Prairie Green at Dixie Crossing—a brand new, $23.3 million senior living center, according to the city website.

The 100,000 square foot facility is located at 1040 Dixie Highway. It features 144 rooms, a fitness center, wellness center, game room, computer lab, and library, among other amenities. Room rental fees hover around $3,000 per month, however, financial assistance is available to those who qualify.

Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez stressed the positive impact of the new center during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

"It’s no secret that over the past five years, because of the economy, we’ve all been hit one way or another, but no where is the impact more than with our seniors that are living on a fixed income with medical costs rising every day," Gonzalez said. "This is so needed here.”

The majority of the development of Prairie Green at Dixie Crossing project was financed by $18.5 million in tax-exempt bonds provided by the the Illinois Housing Development Authority.
