International lab giant Silliker is moving to Crete, but jobs are available if you don't mind the commute.

Friday is moving day for international lab giant Silliker, Inc., but jobs are open to residents who don't mind commuting to Crete, a spokesman said.

Silliker spokesman John Williams told Patch.com Tuesday that the company's new Silliker Solution Center, 3600 Eagle Nest Drive in Crete, has several job opportunities open.

Those interested in applying should check out this link on the company's website, Williams said.

Alderman Joshua Deabel, who says he once worked at the Chicago Heights lab, has described Silliker as a "stepping stone" that has brought opportunity to area residents over the years.

The grand opening for the 11-acre center is scheduled for Sept. 19, according to the website. Last year, the cost of construction for the Silliker Solution Center was estimated at $9.8 million, according to the Northwest Indiana Times.

According to the Silliker Solution Center website, the company will offer complete nutritional chemistry services, as well as heavy metals, pesticides, allergens, and mycotoxin screening for the food and feed industry at the new complex.

Silliker is a division of France–based Mérieux NutriSciences Corp., with reported annual sales in excess of $350 million.
