What Should Go Here? Former South Oak Dodge Location

The city of Chicago Heights is actively looking for retailers to place in the former South Oak Dodge dealership location. Patch wants to know, What Should Go Here?

The former South Oak Dodge location currently sits as an empty lot, waiting for a business to come to the location. That wait could be over sooner, rather than later, thanks to a push by the Chicago Heights City Council, which sent out 400 requests to developers for ideas on what to put in the location.

Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez told aldermen he knows what he doesn't want to move into the spot.

“In the request for qualifications, we specifically put in there that no pawn shops, no cash for gold and no liquor could be sold there,” he said.

The city is looking for retail tax dollars, Gonzalez said. Due to the location of the lot, the city would see little property tax dollars due to its location in a TIF district, limiting the city's revenue from the location, he added.

Knowing what the mayor doesn't want in the location, Patch wants to know: What should go here? The large parcel could be home to a major big-box retailer, a shopping center or several restaurants. Tell Patch what you think in the comments below.
