Bat Beating, Big Bust and a Preaching Pianist: Weekly Recap

Chicago Heights Patch stories, June 12-17

Unfortunately, last week was full of bad news.

An 18-year-old former Bloom High School student was attacked with a baseball bat and left in critical condition. A Mokena motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Olympia Fields. Two Chicago Heights fishermen were found dead in the Monee Reservoir. Finally, Hayley Pelock's memorial Facebook page has encountered negative comments and photos thanks to a recent and disturbing trend.

But it wasn't all bad. Our Remarkable Resident was former Chicago Heights Mayor Angelo "Sam" Ciambrone, and he talked about his connection to the history of the city. We also offered up a sweet deal at Zarlengo's and a list of nearby pools to take the kiddies to. Finally, we closed off the week with another great person of faith: the piano-playing preacher, Delmar Meester.

It's been a pleasure serving the Heights and Olympia Fields with plenty of news throughout last week, good or bad. Hopefully a week from today I'll be rounding up a slew of awesome feature stories we can all smile about.
