Chicago Heights Patch stories, April 4-8.

OK, sure. There was that little ol' election last week, but we had another monumental event in the Heights before the big day arrived.

The opening of ! Patch contributor Aracely Hernandez provided us with wonderful as well.

We also proved a pre-election video giving a quick explanation for why the aldermanic elections would be this year.

Now, onto Election Day. Chicago Heights Patch proudly provided the most Heights-focused election coverage of any outlet, and checking in on some of the candidates and election judges.

Patch photojournalist Mary Compton provided , including moments with then-mayoral candidates David Gonzalez and Joe Faso. But Mary wasn't finished, as she captured more moments as Faso brought his mother to the campaign office and Gonzalez celebrated the at Club Reflections.

After the election, we found out Chicago Heights had a of more than double the average in the south suburbs. We also found out fourth ward park district commissioner write-in candidate Jason Amos received a , despite losing to Joseph P. Stanfa.

Olympia Fields had a in the Rich Township School District 227 elections, as Cheryl Coleman and Sheila Whorton were newly elected to the board and 20-year-man Tony Brunson was ousted.

In other big news, a Chicago Heights man turned himself in, after allegedly a woman he met online for days.

The week ended with another truly remarkable resident. This time it was the Rev. George Nailon of Greater Faith Baptist Church, who spoke about his past mistakes and how he ended up in a position where he could help others.

This week we'll be introducing a new version of an old column. We will also be talking to more of the election winners about their plans for the future.
