New Lines, Old Crimes and Past Times: Weekly Recap

Chicago Heights Patch stories, Mar. 7-12

Never a dull moment in the Heights. Last week we had a plethora of stories, ranging widely in topic and tone.

Unfortunately, we had to report on another Friday in Chicago Heights, exactly two weeks after the death of . This time it was Marian Catholic graduate Hayley Pelock.

The week wasn't all bad. Gov. Pat Quinn made his way down to South Holland to permitting the SouthEast Service Line, a Metra line that will run through Chicago Heights and South Chicago Heights.

We also revealed another Remarkable Resident in , the White Sox bat boy that became the well-recognized voice of Rich Central High School. Tom's story is amazing and we strongly encourage you to read it if you missed it. It includes beautiful photos by Patch photojournalist Mary Compton.

Homewood had a Remarkable Resident of its own and it just so happened to be Bloom High School teacher , who helped his students invent a solar-powered oil-refining machine.

Our Whiz Kids this week were a group of Washington School students who decided to in a new class at the school. This was another story with visuals that captured the moments well.

Monday night, PADS opened its just south of 14th Street, at Greater Faith Baptist Church. Wendell Mosby, the site manager, was on hand to talk about his experience and struggles with opening the shelter.

Finally, we entered the second week of the Union Street Gallery's . Take a look at the photos from the reception. You may see a few Heights notables.
