It's Saturday, folks. That means it's time to take a look at three notable announcements from the past week.

Sun Protection for Soldiers

Kat Van Dusen of Olympia Fields wants to display her support for the U.S. military, many of whom are enduring blazing temperatures in the Middle East. As a Sales Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics, she has joined the company's initiative by combining her patriotism with her profession: skin care and protection to servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Heights Resident Makes Dean's List

Latanda Allen, of Chicago Heights, was among approximately 1,200 students named to the Dean's List at Parkland College in Champaign for spring semester 2011.

To be named to the list, students must earn a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 grade scale for the semester in which they are being honored.

Cool Cat Needs a Permanent Pad

Patch user Vicki Burke doubled up our with her announcement about an 18-month-old cat her family had taken in. Vicki is looking to find a permanent home for the cat and has had her neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped.
