Calling All Girls: Premier Leadership Organization for Girls Paves the Way for a Future Generation of Leaders

Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana announce call to register for girls ages 5-17

Interested in meeting new friends, exploring the world of robotics, learning new skills like archery or gourmet cooking or gaining valuable leadership and business skills all while having fun and making the world a better place?  It’s the perfect time to join Girl Scouts!  All girls ages 5 to 17 can register now for 2013 by going to www.girlscoutsgcnwi.org.

“If a parent wants her daughter to be ready to make the most of 21st century opportunities, Girl Scouts is where it’s at. Girl Scouts invests in girls’ leadership and in expanding their horizons at a time when few other organizations do. Girl Scouts are now involved with any range of learning activities from robotics to starting their own businesses,” said Maria Wynne, CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.

“Studies show that Girl Scouting provides immersive experiences that are transformational and leave a lasting, lifelong impact. Girls experience learning as they have fun opportunities unavailable anywhere else and at a price that families can afford. Now is definitely the perfect time to join Girl Scouts,” Wynne added.

Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana offers all girls a variety of ways in which they can participate from traditional Girl Scout troops to independent experiences where girls, especially busy teens, can design their experience to fit their schedules and goals.

The affordable programs, activities and overnights are designed to provide girls with opportunities to learn leadership skills that they most likely do not get in school.

For only $12 per year, Girl Scouts can join a contemporary-minded organization with 100 years of tradition behind it and experience a variety of topics supported by high-quality national resources and program materials. For additional minimal costs, usually ranging from $5 and up, girls can participate in a variety of innovative, hands-on workshops and events focused on preparing girls to be leaders. Many current programs focus on opening girls’ eyes to the importance of learning critical financial literacy skills and the fun of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

One of the latest programs is designed to teach girls how to design and create their own Android app.  Girls work with professionals from Motorola Mobility to learn the technology behind creating their own app.  Another program offers girls the opportunity to hang out with friends while participating in science activities and developing their own line of lip glosses, sugar scrubs and mud facials.

Other programs include Lego Robotics, day and summer camps and Camp CEO, a leadership development experience with programs built around developing team-building, personal well-being, professional skills, a positive image, personal financial savvy, and career planning. The programs are customized for specific age groups and introduce girls to arts and culture, nature and healthy living.
