FUSED

FUSED
January 15 – February 8, 2014
Reception January 17 | 6-9pm

Union Street Gallery will kick of 2014 with FUSED, in the first floor gallery, running January 15-February 8, 2014. FUSED will feature 31 encaustic works of art by select members of Fused Chicago, a Midwestern encaustic artists group.  Art on exhibit will include painting, mixed media pieces, and sculpture. The exhibit will also include educational information on the encaustic medium and how it is applied.

You can find more information on Fused Chicago and the history of Encaustic on the Fused Chicago website http://www.fusedchicago.org/.

The encaustic works on exhibit in FUSED at Union Street Gallery are contemporary pieces that highlight various ways encaustic medium is used in art today.  Some of the pieces on exhibit use encaustic and pigments to create beautiful, fluid and lush textural abstractions.  Other works of art use encaustic as a transparent layer over a photo or collage, to add distortion and texture. There are also sculptural pieces on exhibit that use encaustic to enhance their exterior surface.

FUSED displays a dynamic, engaging and visually exciting body of work that serves to enhance the educational nature of the exhibit by stimulating the viewer.  The exhibit balances bold color blocking, uninhibited flowing abstractions, impassioned color palettes, clever deliberate compositions and peaceful subdued works where texture instead of color is the main focus.

The opening reception for this exhibit is Friday January 17, from 6-9pm. The reception is free and open to the public. Many of the exhibit artists will be present to engage the public and answer questions. For more information about the gallery and exhibit please visit our website www. unionstreetgallery.org
