Lin was age 12 when she was named the 1985 winner of the senior division of the WTTW/Illinois Bell Illinois Young Performers Competition. Since her 1985 triumph, Lin has soloed as a teenage prodigy with the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.  She also has appeared with many orchestras including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and the Symphony Orchestra of Brazil, and in recital in such cities as Chicago, New York, Nova Scotia, Rio de Janeiro, and Montevideo.  The New York Times describes her as having "electrifying assertiveness" and "virtuosic abandon."  She is on the faculty at Roosevelt University and a member of the Chicago Chamber Musicians.

The April 21 performance will benefit the Friends of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prairie State College Foundation, and Suburban Youth Symphony, a 503c nonprofit whose mission is to teach string instruments to area students. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $5 for students and are available at the door or can be purchased on SYSO's website http://www.suburbanyouthsymphony.org/friends.html
