Bloom NHS Plans Another 5K Run in Honor of Late Classmates

Register now for April 26 scholarship race in honor of Jeff Woodham and Abrahan Cruz.

Bloom High School's National Honor Society will host its second Jeff Woodham and Abrahan Cruz 5K Run/Walk. Last April’s inaugural event raised more than $5,000 in scholarship money.

The race takes place at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 26. On-site registration starts at 7:30 a.m.

Jeff Woodham and Abrahan Cruz, two Bloom students and National Honor Society members, were killed in separate car accidents in 1996. Jeff and Abrahan were exceptional student. A Bloom High School in-house scholarship was founded to remember them and their tragically unrealized potential.

The areas of emphasis for selecting the recipients of these scholarships are service, scholarship, leadership and character, aligning with the four pillars of National Honor Society. Through hosting this event and offering this scholarship, the National Honor Society hopes to acknowledge a few of Bloom’s brightest and hardest working students.

Adults and students are encouraged to participate in the race. Registration is easily accessible on the left side of the Bloom and District homepages, underneath the blue sidebar, and we have hard copies of registration forms available as well. The registration fee is $30 for adults and $15 for students with an ID, and all proceeds go to student scholarships.

Those who are unable to walk or run can still become involved: volunteer or cheer on the day of the race, spread the word to interested friends and family, or donate goods and/or money.
