Bragging Rights for Bloom

One of my Facebook wall posts this week was from Amy Browne Stockwell, who reminded us who would win if a Trojan and a Viking did battle:

That's right! Our boys dominate at b-ball and there's no reason to keep it a secret, is there? Let's rub it in Homewood-Flossmoor Patch's face!

It's worth noting Donald Moore made 17-of-19 free throws as Bloom rallied in the fourth quarter to top H-F for the second time this season.

Is the Heights Safe?

Early in the week, we got notification from the , that a .

Our Facebook post about the story provoked a conversation about crime and whether it matters what town you live in.

Debbie Buelow: thats why im not living there cause SV is bad

Chicago Heights Patch: He was actually found in Chicago Heights. So I guess Sauk Village is in the clear on this one...

Jaclyn Ziobro: Wheew! Well at least that's one time we're in the clear....sad but true.

Donna Martinez: No matter what crime is everywhere, I live in Chicago Heights , We just have to keep an eye on our children and everything around us...

Stefania Cipolla: Not every area of Chicago Heights is bad.

Donna Martinez: ‎@Stepanie,No it's not i agree..

A Running Account

Last Friday, after one colossal snowfall, I posted a status update pointing out the rough road conditions, stating "Roads in the Heights are atrocious. Don't go out unless you absolutely have to."

This started a running account of the street status of different neighborhoods in the Heights, often very critical of the city government.

It's worth noting, our status update was not intended to be an attack on the city's handling of the snow. It was simply an observation.

Anyway, here's what Facebook fans had to say:

Teena Long: great I have to!!! Thinking I should leave work early

Karin Koulouris Camilleri: You can always tell when you hit the Heights.. the roads are awful.. we do have equipment right??

Karen Mattio They been like this since Larry Prisco retired he got the job done

Cheryl Krause: Pretty funny how I seen alot of plows this morning but as soon as the snow hit the plows disappeared.

Scott L Ambrosini: Thanks, but I had too, and you were and are even at 4:00 p.m. still correct.

Heidi Hawkins Gardiner: ‎4:50 p.m. in Glenwood and Glenwood Dyer Rd. Has yet to be plowed much less side streets!

Stefania Cipolla: And much to my surprise when I finally got home this evening at 7:30 p.m., the plows STILL have not passed our neighborhood! Shocker!

Chowdown Fun

Finally, we put out our first Chowdown Callout of 2012 on Facebook. For those who are unfamiliar with the Chowdown Showdown, it's a competition between local restaurants, in which Patch readers can vote on who has the best take on a certain dish.

This week it was Reubens ().

Here's what restaurants our Facebook fans like:

Teena Long: I love a good Reuben. Jason's pub in Crete has an excellent one.

Charlotte Barner Carrell: I love the Reubens from in Chicago Heights , Culver's in Matteson has a Decent Reuben also, but Big Boys is my fav.

Pat Frederickson: ‎5th Quarter has my vote. is awesome too but 5th serves theirs with a cold brew and tater tots!
