Senate Race for 15th District Heats Up: Candidate Threatens to Sue Opponent

Candidate Napoleon Harris becomes heated with Candidate Donna Harris after he is questioned about receiving the Senior Tax Exemption on two luxury homes in his name.

Yesterday afternoon, three candidates seeking the Democratic nomination this March Primary for the Illinois Senatorial 15th District met for a informational radio debate on AM Radio WVON.

Candidates Donna Miller and Pat Mahon were interviewed by Radio Talk Show Host Cliff Kelly to learn what their plans were for the 15th Senate District, if elected. The interview started at 4 p.m. in which Host Cliff Kelly introduced Donna Miller and Pat Mahon, and stated "I don't know where the third candidate Napoleon Harris is, he confirmed with the show for participation."

Candidate Harris arrived at 4:38 pm and had a chance to speak about his plans. Talk show host Cliff Kelly opened his telephone lines for callers to ask questions to the candidates.

Everything was going smoothly, until one caller asked candidate Napoleon Harris a shocking question. "Mr. Harris, how did you receive in 2010 a homeowner, Senior Citizen and Senior Citizen Freeze Exemption on properties in your name?"

Mr. Harris responded, "Those were properties I purchased in Chicago for when my father was alive."

The caller went further to respond, "No, Mr. Harris I am speaking of the two luxury homes that are registered in your name in both Orland Park and Flossmoor."

Mr. Harris turned his frustration towards Candidate Donna Miller in reference to a mailing that was sent out informing voters of this recent discrepency. The information was obtained from the Cook County Treasurer Office. Mr. Harris is listed as the co-owner of the home in Orland Park, but neither Harris or his mom are senior citizens.

Mr. Harris' home in Flossmoor also has no senior citizens listed. The question now is how did he qualifiy for these senior exemptions in two areas, which have high property taxes? Yet in 2011 both properties paid a full share of taxes. It was also noted that Mr. Harris was a registered voter at the Orland Park property until recently.

Mr. Harris became infuriated and threaten to put a lawsuit against candidate Miller and left the radio station.
