Should Lincoln Mall Close Permanently?

We took a look at what commenters on Yelp were saying about Lincoln Mall over the past years. It's not pretty.

Matteson officials announced Wednesday their intent to file a lawsuit forcing the closure of Lincoln Mall. It comes after tallies of more than 25 fire, safety and building code violations—the end of a long road that many locals have seen coming for some time now, as evident in many of the mall's Yelp reviews.

Here's what some folks have been saying:

Leanne A, "Let me just use some basic words to describe it: Empty; Scary; Generic; Ghetto; Dirty; Gross; Amazing (that it's still open); Sad."

Nafeesah A, "This mall could come back if they had anchor stores, but also improving the quality of their security as well to control the gangs of teenagers who come into the mall to hang out. It's just really sad as to how the mall has gone downhill."

Lupe D, "wow, I almost feel bad writing this negative review but this is one sad, sad mall.  I can't say I have ever experienced anything that made me feel bad for a 'mall,' but walking into this place did."

Patrick K, "I remember a day when it flourished.  It had a recognizable business booming in each unit, there were hundreds of shoppers on even the slowest days. Now, there are a handful of stores open.  It is the land of dollar stores and no-name vendors."

Lauren-Ashley B, "It's a shame how low Lincoln Mall has fallen and the people that own the place are making no efforts to improve the place. I literally have not been out in the mall since I was in high school nearly 10 years ago so I have no clue how it looks inside, but I'm sure it's pitiful."

Courtney O, "It's sad, but it's true. This mall went under. It sunk. Hard."
