DeAndre M. Roper, 27, of the 14800 block of South Atlantic in Dolton, was arrested and charged with assault after police got a call about a man with a handgun at ZZ's Market, according to the report. When police arrived Roper was being detained by a police detective. An employee of the store told police Roper had been making a purchase and was arguing with him about receiving the wrong amount of change. Roper then told the employee he would shoot him and robbed the store, according to the report. Another employee corroborated the story.
The owner of Millennium Foods in the first block of West 16th Street told police five men entered the store with black plastic bags and put several bags of potato chips, cookies and cakes in them. The men then ran out of the store. Three of the thieves jumped into a gray Ford Escort parked on McEldowney Street and fled south on Chicago Road, according to the report. The other two men fled north on foot. Police were unable to located the offenders, according to the report.
MONDAY, DEC. 24
A 32-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he received multiple text messages from an unknown person, accusing him of cheating on his girlfriend. The man responded to the texts, attempting to learn the identity of the person. The texts then got hostile, with the mysterious person threatening to kill his girlfriend, mother and child, according to the report. On of the texts even told the man his family would "swim with the fish," according to the report.
