Bomb Threat and Brawl Rocks Two Rich High Schools

'A very sad situation' unfolded at both Rich Central and Rich South High Schools Monday afternoon.

What began as a bomb threat evacuation at Rich Central High School deteriorated into a brawl at Rich South High School on Monday afternoon, according to the Sun-Times Media.

It all began around 1 p.m., when a Rich Central student made a bomb threat to a substitute teacher. The teacher notified the administration, and it was decided to evacuate Rich Central High School of its 1,300 students.

As the displaced Rich Central students began arriving at Rich South High School, a Rich South student pulled a fire alarm. Before long, students from both the evacuated Rich Central and Rich High Schools were all standing outside Rich South—and that's when things took another turn for the worse.

“It’s just basically a very sad situation to happen, when I know that the hearts of the administrators were trying to do the right thing for the safety of the kids,” Rich Township High School District 227 Board president Cheryl Coleman said.
