Chicago Heights Police Blotter: Homeless Man Beats Car Windshield with Tree Branch

Chicago Heights police reports, Oct. 30-31

MONDAY, OCT. 31

Criminal Damage with Tree

Kevin Y. Goodwin, 57, a homeless man, was charged with criminal damage to property for striking a car windshield with a tree branch in the 0-100 block of 14th Street around 3 p.m., police said. The car owner told police he has had problems with Goodwin trespassing on his property in the past.

Domestic Battery

Armani A. Thomas, 23, of the 1100 block of Division Street in Chicago Heights, was charged with domestic battery. Police said Thomas punched a woman in the back of the head three times inside his home around 7 p.m. following an argument.

Crack Pipes

Ervin T. Pearson, 52, of the 20300 block of Ithacard Road in Olympia Fields, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they approached Pearson in the 100 block of Joe Orr Road around noon for panhandling and found two crack pipes in his pocket.

Assault in the Temple

Ricky L. Stevenson, 42, of the 1300 block of Wentworth Avenue in Chicago Heights, was charged with assault. Police said Stevenson threatened to punch someone inside the Spiritual Israel Temple around 9:30 a.m. and took off. He was arrested minutes later on the corner of 15th Street and Shields Avenue.

Attempted Ruse?

An 81-year-old man told police that he was approached in his yard around 3 p.m. by a man claiming he wanted to refund money on recent masonry work. At which point, police said, the homeowner’s 80-year-old wife found a second man in his bedroom and saw a third roaming outside. They soon left, and nothing was reported stolen. They were described as Hispanic, between 5-feet, 10-inches and 6-feet, 3-inches tall, with medium and stocky builds.

Stolen Autos

  • A blue 2004 Chevy Silverado was reported stolen from a garage in the 500 block of 15th Place between Oct. 28 and Oct. 30, police said.
  • A steel business in the 2500 block of State Street told police that a tractor had been taken by a 41-year-old Michigan man on Oct. 13 and never returned. The semi-truck is a white 2000 Peterbilt 379, police said.
